Many Chinese children are starting to look like this also. It's criminal!
Several methods for expats to meet women in China, some good, some not so good, were outlined in my last posting. However, there is one method, not so common I didn’t discuss.
I’ve dated numerous women in China over the last four years. My first short lived relationship was with Tanya was in Guangzhou immediately upon arrival in March 2007.
This relationship with Tanya developed over the course of two years before coming to China from an initial online meeting at an Internet dating website. Within two months of arriving in Guangzhou, it was quickly in the past, as I explained in more detail over a year ago in some of my initial Blog postings.
The impetus for this relationship, as well as several other subsequent short-lived relationships, was primarily through online matchmaking. Of course, when your boots on the ground, it’s much easier to actually meet women of special interest you initially met on the internet. Like many single foreigners in China, I combine online matchmaking with real life methods.
So what is the other method of meeting Chinese women when you’re boots on the ground?
Chinese have their traditional matchmaking methods I’ve previously written about. Only in the last decade has the more modern online matchmaking caught fire that may puzzle their parents, that is IF they even know about it.
While personal boy/girl introductions by friends and family may be common place in China, it is not as common for Chinese men or women to introduce foreign men to Chinese women for prospective romantic partners.
Yes, they may introduce someone to you in passing out of politeness, but not call and say, “Hey David, I want you to meet my cousin. She’s really nice.”
Yes, you western men know exactly what I’m talking about. The often dreaded "Fix-up" or “Blind Date” suggested by your sister, sister-in-law, best friend, or even your mother.
In the USA, the conversation would go something like this,
“Hey David, my wife has a friend at work recently divorced and she’s looking for a date to the company Christmas party next week”, says your best friend.
“What does she look like?” I would reply.
“Oh she’s got a great personality!”
“WHAT DOES SHE LOOK LIKE?!!”
“Oh…Umm… not bad… and she’s got a great personality!”
“Yeah, right. All 300 pounds (136 KG) of her!”
Now take the same scenario in the USA,
“Hey David, my wife has a friend at work recently divorced and she’s looking for a date to the company Christmas party next week”, says your best friend.
“What does she look like?” I would reply.
“Man, I gotta tell you… all bullshit aside. I saw her last year at the Christmas party and she is smokin’ hot like a two-dollar pistol! Sally said she’s horny as a bitch-in-heat since her divorce. A few drinks and my guess is the party’s on!”
“I’m there dude!”
Only in my dreams!
Thirty-three percent of Americans are considered obese (23% + body fat).
I’m no statistician, but, I would venture a guess there is at least a 1 in 3 chance your USA blind date will be a rhino ass. Now factor-in a smokin’ hot woman will probably have no problem finding her own men and your odds have increased to maybe more than 50/50 she’s Bertha Butt… you know… one of the famous Butt sisters.
Really, some of these American women resemble the legendary Sasquatch or Big Foot rumored to still exist primarily in the deep forests of western North America.
It only takes the normal man to get burned a few times on blind dates with these beasts and you will swear, “NEVER again!” This is when you tell your best friend (or former best friend if he burned you before), “I’m busy all month every December for AT Least the next decade!”
How did it get to this point in America where we have so many beasts or lard asses running around?
The answer is very simple. Fast foods chocked full of sugar, calories and carbohydrates turning to sugar. Then the second, maybe biggest reason is the all-you-can-eat food buffets across America.
An American food buffet is Nirvana for one of these porkers. Food quality means nothing. It’s the quantity for a reasonable price and ease of access. It's very similar to a hog slopping at a feeding trough. It is beyond disgusting!
Seriously, stop and think about it. How many obese people do you normally see at some chic` French restaurant or other fine dining establishment? Rarely! Why? Once again, the answer is simple. Small child-like portions are served at high prices AND tipping is expected. No value for their money.
You can see a buffet manager cringe when a herd of these greedy-eyed hippos and their fat kids come thundering through the restaurant door waddling towards the serving area.
“Oh shit, I’m going to lose money today!”
A word of advice for all you petite Chinese and Asian women. Whatever you do, DO NOT get in their way, think you can muscle your way to the food, much less get between them and the food serving area. Your odds of survival would be greater caught in the middle of a stampeding herd of angry elephants!
It is so disgusting to see these "Weight challenged" people circling a food buffet like sharks in a feeding frenzy piling the food on their plate so high it's falling off. They are to damn lazy to get their fat ass up and go back many more times. Even more disgusting is to see them order a diet soda like that's going to make any difference!
Unfortunately, I’m starting to see this same problem growing in China. Literally GROWING!
Four years ago, I didn’t see so many fat Chinese. Now it’s common place, especially among the children in the middle and upper class families that can afford to throw money at their kids to go to McDonalds and KFC daily. It’s borderline criminal when a Chinese middle school boy OR girl, shorter than my 5’10” (178/179 cm) frame, weighs as much as I do at 180 pounds (81 kg)!
Chengdu food buffets are also packing in the fat people. The only saving grace is the Chinese buffets are slow to replenish the various foods, especially at peak times, thus inhibiting food consumption. Therefore, they have to wait a long time to get their favorite food.
About the only food buffets I occasionally go are located in the Five-Star hotels where the food quality is excellent and the cost is prohibitive to most of these obese people to bring an entire family to pig-out. It is worth the high prices to enjoy a good meal, in a quiet and pleasant atmosphere, WITHOUT dealing with these porkers and their squealing crumb snatchers disturbing my meal and conversation.
I have a solution to this buffet overeating problem.
It should be mandatory for EVERY food buffet establishment to have one of those big freight scales at the door. Everyone must weigh-in before eating. There would be a weight proportionate to height standard with a ten percent tolerance. Weigh too much and your fat ass is out the door.
At the very least, charge these lard asses double or even triple price. If the airlines can charge obese people for two seats, I see no reason this would not work. Some states in America are trying to do this, however I'm not sure of their success.
Furthermore, the P.R.C. should change their immigration laws and impose strict weight standards to restrict these foreign beasts entry. They could call it the “David Lee Benchmark Test”. Foreign women who weigh more than me, 180 pounds (71kg), would be denied entry.
I envision, it would go something like this,
“Welcome to the P.R.C. May I see your passport?”
“OK lady, please step-up on the scales.”
“That’s right lady, DON”T ARGUE! I SAID step-up on the scales!”
“OMG lady! 102 kg (225 pounds)! Entry denied! Lady you’ve got to get your fat ass on the next plane back to LA!”
“I suggest you check into one of those American fat farms. Get below 80 kg and we’ll admit you next time. BTW, cut those long toenails if you’re going to wear sandals. You; look like a grizzly bear!”
This would be easy to do in the P.R.C. It could be accomplished under the catch all and very ambiguous “Promoting social disorder” law.
So many Chinese women think all American women are so beautiful based on some movie or TV show they’ve seen. Think of the social disorder that would be created if these Chinese women’s bubble bursts when they learn the truth about everyday American women’s looks!
Yes, I know, in my dreams.
I’ll leave it to you “Kinder and gentler” people to defend these people. As for me, I’m vying to replace the famous writer, commentator, TV personality, and curmudgeon Andy Rooney appearing many years on CBS’s long running TV show “60 Minutes”. God rest his recently departed soul. Even as a very young man, he was a favorite of mine throughout my life. He had a good run dying at ninety two.
How did I get on this rant or diatribe on beasts and buffets in a target of opportunity blog? I guess I needed to vent!
What about the other method of foreigners meeting Chinese women when in-country?
I promise to get back on track with this subject in; Chinese Blind Dates- Targets of Opportunity- Part III: Boots on the Ground with some real-life experiences in China.
As to why CLM posted this after receiving it from you....????
Our hope is that if a reader disagrees with certain content they'll express they're view on the subject and explain how and why they see things differently. David has expressed his view on rising obesity in America in about as strong a way as possible, which is David's way. Some might find it offensive, but no one can deny that the sharp rise in obesity in Western countries has become a serious cause of concern and a hot topic in the media. Ultimately his point seems to be that China or the Chinese should try to avoid falling into the same trap as the west, if it isn't already too late. I really don't understand why we should censor David from expressing his POV on that issue.
garbage food everywhere in America
shit food
Tanshui… John beat me to the punch and pretty well summed up what I would have otherwise said in response to your comment. I’m not sure what part of this Blog got you all fired-up. Was there a particular part, or just the overall subject of obesity?
The proliferation of the killer disease Type I (Juvenile) and Type II (adult onset) Diabetes in the USA and now China, especially among the obese, is no laughing matter. The same goes for the often early deaths of obese people from cardiac arrest.
Maybe I have a limited audience here, but since it goes across the Blogosphere, it’s possible many more will read outside the CLM/ALM community. If my directness, sarcasm and otherwise political incorrectness shocks and offends some, so be it. No apologies. It goes with the territory. If just one obese person reading this takes a long look in the mirror and subsequently changes their lifestyle, then great!
BTW, PTSD as a reason for this Blog is quite humorous, which we all love with your comments. Let it suffice to say, I’m not a sixteen year old love struck boy and V was not my first break-up. It certainly didn’t last long enough to scar me for life. Let’s just say, “This wasn’t my first time at the rodeo.” in her case.
Arthurxiong, thanks to you also. The photos were to emphasize my points and also allow me to inject more sarcasm and a little humor when you scroll over each photo. Believe it or not, I could have posted much more disgusting and revolting photos!
For those that didn’t like this Blog, I could give you some websites totally devoted to the subject much harsher than I.
Here are some worldwide Diabetes facts:
There are currently over 350 million people worldwide diagnosed with Diabetes. If nothing is done, this figure will rise to 500 million within a generation.
Diabetes is linked with genetic and lifestyle factors. Type 1 Diabetes begins in childhood or adolescence and is not a preventable disease.
Type 2 Diabetes is linked with unhealthy lifestyle and preventable risk factors include obesity, poor diet, drinking, and smoking. 90 percent of global diabetes cases are type 2, according to the WHO. Until recently, this type of diabetes was seen only in adults but it is now also occurring in children
Diabetes kills: 1 person every 8 seconds, 4 million people a year.
Diabetes does not discriminate: all ages, rich and poor, all countries.
Diabetes can no longer be ignored: 4 million lives lost a year, 1 million amputations a year, millions lost in income and productivity.
Here are some China Diabetes facts:
China has the highest rate of Diabetes with about 25% of the worldwide Diabetic population.
One in ten mainland Chinese are diagnosed with Diabetes. China has more than 92 million people with diabetes and 150 million people who are pre-diabetic.
Diabetes and its complications have a significant economic impact on individuals, families, health systems and countries. For example, WHO estimates that in the period 2006-2015, China will lose $558 billion in foregone national income due to heart disease, stroke and diabetes.
Here’s a newspaper clip from Australia:
SYDNEY - Children with fat fathers are more likely to be obese by age of eight or nine than those with healthy weight fathers, a new study by researchers at Australia's University of Newcastle found on Thursday.
Researchers at the University of Newcastle found that children who had an overweight or obese dad were four times more likely to follow in their father's footsteps than those with a dad in the healthy weight range.
Lead researcher Emily Freeman said it was still unknown why overweight dads had such a significant effect on their children's weights.
According to Freeman, around 25 percent of Australian children are overweight or obese.
She said helping fat dads lose weight could make a difference to the youngsters.
Now after reading all this, PLEASE tell me I’m too harsh!
John, I did not say that you shouldn't publish it I just asked why you did post it. And your answer is a good one.
David knows how to stir things up and this well written post may do just that. hehehe
Perhaps my politically correct training synapses kicked in and forced me to stop chuckling but induced me to write something.
BUT please note that I didn't write that it should not be posted.
Man, someone has to pull your leg.....hahaha
I'm in Shanghai and will head back to Beijing tomorrow and it is not hard to to find junk food anywhere in these cities whether American style or Chinese style. Just walk out of subway station and walk down any street to find a McDonalds or Pizza Hut.
And more fascinating is that this stuff is quickly delivered to your apartment or hotel in a few minutes.
