To start with I have never been in trouble with the law, meaning never been arrested, never been in jail, but as a 16 year old high school student I was mistaken by one policeman for beating up his wife. Between the age 16 and 17 my brothers and I were starting to drift a bit, but POPS wasn't having any of that. He had some friends on the police force in our hometown, so one day he rounded up the three of us and took us downtown to the police station. Well they did the whole routine from booking, fingerprinting, to the jail cell. This was the first and last time I or my brothers ever heard the sound the of jail cell closing and it was a lesson I will never forget. Growing up in Texas was one of mixed emotions. I grew up in a military community, and everyone was together. Of course we had our spats and turf wars but we came together if any outsiders got in our way.
