It feels like happened yesterday. When I came to Canada almost 30 years ago I was having a coffee with a Chinese gentleman, a witty businessman and his words sounded like a prophecy. He took a deep breath, his eyes looked like if he could envision the future and he said “In just a matter of few years, China will attain an immense growth and wealth and become incredibly powerful and this will surprise a lot of people”. The success of Great China in every front is something really awesome and undeniable. Read more…

Wow, where do I start catching up on what’s been going on in my life in China? It’s been a crazy 6 month sabbatical filled with some personal losses on the home front back in the states and with some successes here in China. Even though I’ve been a bit overwhelmed with everything going on, it’s not really an excuse for going MIA on you guys on here at CLM and I hope that by starting by filling in the blanks for everyone I can make sense of my descent into isolation. Funny how karma can unexpectedly come around years later, in distant places. Guitarist Jorma Kaukonen is not a household name, except with blues and jam band musicians and fans of the Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna, both of which he co-founded. Read more…

Of course if you’re a stay-at-home type, as most Expats in China are at this time of year, the chaos going on may have gone unnoticed. But if you’re one of the gazillion Chinese or few Expats who are caught up travelling during the annual greatest human migration in human history then you’ve no doubt been caught up in the chaos at some point. Last Saturday afternoon on June 18th, I went to Hu Bei University for CET6 (College English Test 6) exam. The examination would start on 3:00 P.M. Since it was pouring rain, I left for school on 1:20 P.M. It takes only 15 minute from my home to Hu Bei University by bus. I took the bus at 1:30 P.M. Our bus drove to just one station before traffic congestion ground it to a halt. We were stopped for over an hour. When we finally got moving we had to pass through a bridge. The water was immense and we moved at a snail’s pace. Nearby a taxi was immersed in water. Our driver asked passengers who were sitting in the back to move forward in order to increase the weight at the front of the bus to prevent us from getting stalled. Read more…

This question was brought up before by my friends and families. I didn’t give them any answer because I never really thought about it. A few weeks ago, a blogger here asked me this question again. Read more…

Macheng is located in HuBei Province. It is not a famous little town. There is about 100,000 acres of wild-azalea (Rhododendron) on Gui Feng Mountain. The azaleas blossom for only 10 days from April end to early May. Saturday (the 7th, May) had been set down as the time to view the flowers. Read more…

One of the groups most likely to be 'working blind' in China is the 'English Teacher', for unlike other foreign workers in China they do not have ready access to trustworthy advice, tenacious secretaries or unlimited company resources to resolve 'life's little inconsistencies' in China. Read more…

Some readers of the blogs may have noticed a fairly vitriolic interchange between one blog-writer and the forum owner, John Abbott versus two other blog writers (myself included) about the rights and wrongs of transferring from a Tourist Visa in China to a Working Visa in China. Read more…
